The population of Medina has recently surpassed the 1 million mark and is now officially the fourth largest city in Saudi Arabia. With 3.4% growth, it is well above the national average in terms of expansion. The city’s population is expected to double in the next 20 years. This forecast has led to the creation of the KEC (Economic Knowledge City).
The objective of the KEC is to implement a diversification strategy for the Saudi Arabian economy and revive Medina as a center for Islamic and global knowledge as well as a cultural center.
In addition, they want to improve the quality of life and the economic prospects of Medina’s main assets in order to create more jobs, better visitor experiences, more businesses, and more life opportunities.
