“Mega-cities” of the future are already here

“Megacities” are urban conglomerates with over 10 million inhabitants. Today, there are 20 metropolis around the globe that have earned this distinction.

Thanks to the global trend of migration toward metropolitan areas, many more cities are expected to join this group in the future. According to UN estimates, in the year 2030, around 60% of people will live in cities. This could equate to more than 600 mega-cities around the world.

Therefore, the use of smart technology to manage daily life in these large cities is essential. 

Many large cities are turning to new models that promote the sustainability and improvement of the provision of services, particularly when it comes to critical services such as public transportation, security, infrastructure, electronic government, and the development of smart energy networks.
