Government of Spain calls for more smart cities

Enrique Hernández Bento, Under Secretary of Industry, Energy and Tourism of Spain is calling upon regional authorities to establish new smart cities through the public site Red.es.

The announcement, made public during the inauguration of the “Foro Tikal 2014”, is directed to all municipalities with over 20,000 inhabitants from Andalucía, Extremadura and Castilla La Mancha. An investment of 15 million euros will be financed with European funds. Project’s objectives must include the idea of an environmentally sustainable city as well as the generation of energy efficiency, promoting the quality of life of citizens.

 A procedures manual, has been prepared by the Multisectorial Association of Companies of Electronics, Technologies of Information and Communication, Telecommunication and Digital Content (Ametic). This manual provides a comprehensive set of innovative tools including the rating of public services in terms of planning and penetration, as well as the use and saving of resources. It also includes the design of application models and the conceptualization of technological elements that can be constantly incorporated in the communities.
