The project LightSavers showed that LED technology can generate energy savings of up to 85%.
LightSavers is an independent global project spanning two and a half years that placed LED lamps throughout 12 different cities (including New York, London, Calcutta and Sidney) around the world. The final report is called: “Lighting a clean revolution: The ascension of the LED in public lighting and its meaning for cities”.
Some of its conclusions are:
• People living in the test cities agree that LED lighting offers better visibility and more security.
• LED technology could save 670 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year.
• The useful life of the LED illumination ranges between 50.000 and 100.000 hours which shows a high return on investment.
