Next October, a technological center fostering the development of smart cities in South America will be opened in Chile.
Radu Popescu-Zeletin, head of this center, believes that current urbanization trends (60% of the people dwell in urban areas) represent an enormous challenge to authorities. Therefor, they need to find ways of turning urban conglomerates into intelligent and more efficient cities. With the implementation of technology in areas such as transport, security, telecommunications and electronic government, the life standard of the citizens can be enhanced.
The initial focus will be on technology transfer in Chile and the area, besides helping to empower local industry.
