Santander already counts with “smart sensors”

In the city of Santander (Autonomous Community of Cantabria) the European Union has launched their smart city project, with an investment of around 9 million Euros.

Nearly 10,000 sensors will be installed in the city’s downtown, inside small grey boxes attached to lampposts, streetlamps, under the asphalt and on the walls of some buildings. These sensors will measure light, pressure, temperature, humidity and even the movement of vehicles and people.

In order to provide a better urban cleaning system, other data collected by these sensors will be used to optimize irrigation water consumption and monitor the amount of garbage in containers.
