ONCE Foundation in favor of “human cities”

Jesus Hernandez Galan, director of Universal Accessibility for the Spanish foundation ONCE (National Organization for Blind Spaniards), declared in a recent meeting in Spain about new cities that we should focus more on constructing human cities rather than smart cities.

Once and Human Cities

Jesus Hernandez feels that the future development of a city should be focused “on each and every one of the surroundings that citizens are involved with” such as housing, transportation, urban planning, citizen participation, public buildings, governance, energy efficiency, communication, and information and services of all types such as health and electronic administration, among others.

The conclusion of his presentation was that “a truly smart city will be one that focuses its energy strategy as well as its technological infrastructure to improve the well-being of all its citizens.”
